  • Installed, configured, and integrated my company's web-based configuration management product with the Apache web server, Tomcat servlet container, IBM's WebSphere application server, and Oracle RDBMS. Platforms are Solaris, Windows, and HP-UX. The application is a highly customizable configuration management system with components for Electronic Document Management (EDM), Product Document Management (PDM), and Workflow. Most data is housed in an Oracle database back-end in a specialized schema, while some is contained in the filesystem.
  • Duties included installation of the application and third party software at customer sites and within the company for in-house applications.

  • System Administrator, August 2002 – April 2003
  • System and database administrator for a Casi-Rusco Picture Perfect access control system which provides physical security to all Western states for the Federal Government. The Casi-Rusco software runs on an AIX server with an Informix database back-end. Duties include AIX system administration, database administration and backups, and writing customized SQL reports.
  • System administrator for two, redundant IBM RS/6000 servers running AIX v4.2.1.0. One server was in a “warm” backup mode for the Casi-Rusco access control system. The machines were in service 24x7.
  • Researched replacements for a proprietary trouble ticket tracking system with a cross-platform application. Candidate solutions included Open Source applications such as PostgreSQL and PHP and vendor-supplied applications such as Filemaker Pro.

  • Provided server, database, and network administration and security consulting for a local real estate venture. The project is a GIS application utilizing SuSE Linux, PostgreSQL, and Tomcat.
  • Installed a server for a new "online community" to provide Internet mail (POP, IMAP, and webmail) and file storage. Further enhancements include chat services. The platform is Red Hat Linux with qmail and a webmail interface.
  • Created a proposal for a large, local company to replace an existing MS Exchange installation with a linux-based solution. Evaluated SuSE's Email Server III, Stalker's Communigate Pro, and qmail for email component and Brown Bear Software's Calcium for calendaring component.

  • Administered Oracle 8i databases on Linux and Solaris platforms. Familiar with performance tuning, security, account creation and maintenance, backup and recovery. Optimized databases to interact with APT's software product aptAnalysis, a predictive modeling tool.
  • Acquired, prepared for loading, and loaded into databases customer data. Preparation included writing UNIX scripts to automate organization of files and running Java modules to extract usable data.

Established and maintained the NT domain (user accounts, file sharing, etc). Installed and maintained SQL Server, IIS, and Cold Fusion on NT servers. Evaluated BIND vs Windows DNS for internal name servers. Selected JH Software's SimpleDNS for Windows for its simplicity and ease of administration.
  • Network Administrator. Designed and maintained APT's internal network. Maintained firewall and provided security. Implemented a dial-up remote access server. Evaluated OpenBSD and Linux variants for firewall and VPN. Chose Coyote Linux for firewall for its simplicity and ease of administration.

  • Implemented and maintained a secure web interface to the Naval Research Laboratory's financial reporting system using Oracle Application Server and Developer Server.
